The first of our online mini-guides, Hg2 Barcelona brings you the edited highlights of this wonderful city. Opulent yet edgy, a leader in modern interior design yet famous for its gothic architecture, Barcelona presents a series of contrasts. What can be assured though, is that it's always a fabulous choice for a weekend away.
'Why should I choose Barcelona as my weekend break?', I hear you ask
Barcelona is a place of opulent luxury with an edge. A leader in modern interior design, one can stay in hotels that surpass all standards of luxury and indulgence, while bars and clubs loiter on every corner so there is never a shortage of good places to drink and meet the locals. Being a stone’s throw from El Bulli, voted number one restaurant in the world, the local cuisine is enough to entice anyone interested in culinary trends, regional tastes or just a totally new and refreshing experience. The food here will literally blow you away and there is no end to the versatile and often theatrical restaurants to choose from. Barcelona is a city that wakes late and parties until late. Spend enough time here and you’ll find yourself adapting to the wonderful siesta way of life.
How long should I stay?
A long weekend is perfect for this bustling metropolis; although there is no shortage of places to eat, drink, party and play, the city isn’t particularly large but this makes it easy to navigate and everything accessible no matter where you are staying.
When shall I go?
The best time to go to Barcelona depends on the type of experience in which you’re interested. The summer from June through August is when the city is most crowded with visitors and is considered to be the height of travel season. Many locals leave the city in July/August for their month-long vacation, though by no means is Barcelona empty. The spring is beautiful and also a great time to visit.
Where shall I stay?
There are no end of fabulous hotels in Barcelona and although style and luxury may be a primary concern, even some of the smallest boutique hotels are both inexpensive and exquisite. Encompassing the new wave of chic-design hotels are both The
Hotel Arts and
Hotel Pulitzer, while
Claris Hotel offers a more traditional elegance. Sitting brightly on the exclusive Passeig de Gracia is the prestigious
Hotel Majestic, while
Neri Hotel has been named the best boutique hotel in town.
