A relatively new hotel, Hotel 1898 opened in October 2005 and hasn’t had many an empty night since so booking ahead is essential. Suites with private jacuzzi / swimming pools adorn the top part of this stunning 19th century building, situated perfectly on the Ramblas.
Its original 1890s façade leads one into a heavenly reception (even the lobby is a fabulous hang out joint) and the roof terrace, soon to be opened to the public, resplendent with a huge swimming pool, cocktail bar and sun loungers so large they look more like mattresses.
The views across Barcelona, no matter where in the building your room is located, are breathtaking and if you come during the winter months, the indoor pool and spa treatment centre are well worth a visit (they’re for guests only though so you’ll need to be staying there.)
