Review
There are two houses to this apartment hotel: the first more traditional and the second overtly modern.
Over a century old, the first house has several themed rooms – ranging from a floral inspired bridal room to a more male dominated gentleman’s drawing room. All are characteristic and come with the bonus of personal kitchen facilities.
A newer house (with lift) was designed along a water theme. As such, particular attention has been paid to bathroom facilities and materials used. While rooms are styled loosely along a retro theme, splashes of colour come courtesy of the owner’s fascination with Indonesia. Great efforts have also been taken to maintain original features in the building – some over a hundred years old. There are also plans to turn the downstairs Club del Mar breakfast room into a full blown seafood restaurant.
A spacious outdoor garden can also be reached via a small walkway over a water filled courtyard. Few hotels this side of the city can offer rooms with of comfort and individuality – the Ackselhaus is an exception. Fantastic value.
