Berlin’s premier design hotel, Q! opened in 2004 to a fanfare of favourable reviews.
Whether you could actually stay here for a long period of time is questionable, but in terms of style this innovative hotel cannot be beaten. Walls meld into desks and ceilings while streamlined surfaces wrap around rooms to create a cocoon-like feeling.
So fluid is the space that door handles and light switches are actually tricky to locate. Absolute white and smoked-oak wood form the colour schemes, with beds built into a block alongside baths. If at all possible, the communal areas are even more dramatic; red linoleum-clad surfaces glide through the bar, where ex-Met bar manager Ben Reed was drafted in to mastermind the cocktail menu.
Downstairs, a spa benefits from hot sand floors and an atmosphere permanently set to body-temperature to boost the immune system. Q! is the handiwork of L.A.-based firm Graft, whose long list of clients includes Brad Pitt.
