The Eresin Crown can, uniquely, style itself as a ‘museum hotel’, because dotted around the 59-roomed hotel are catalogued items from the Istanbul Archaeology Museum. Happily this is really just icing on a quality cake that makes the Eresin Crown the best luxury hotel in Sultanahmet behind its rather more luxurious and pricey near neighbour, the Four Seasons.
The experience of the Eresin family, who run several hotels in the city, shows itself in the professional levels of service. All the smart, modern rooms have parquet flooring, Jacuzzis and several mod cons. The only letdown is the occasional lapse into kitsch, most criminally in the ground floor ‘Columns’ bar, where several ancient columns are inveigled into a somewhat tasteless interior decoration scheme.
Several bars and hotels in Sultanahmet have rooftop terraces with incredible views, including the Eresin Crown, but in fortuitous continuity with its antiquarian theme the hotel’s rooftop terrace offers, in addition, a unique perspective on the substructure of the Hippodrome.
