The Marmara Group’s latest project, opened in late 2004, is its slickest yet, aimed squarely at the high-end tourist trade that the Marmara Istanbul lacks.
Occupying a renovated 1970s building bang in the centre of Pera, its location is good for all-round visits. The post-minimalist interior design has something of the Ian Schrager about it, with the odd ornate touch, such as a crystal chandelier or brightly coloured leather chair, offsetting a predominantly dark colour scheme and spacious environment. Most rooms are decent in size and have good modern conveniences.
The hotel’s size – at 200 rooms – is just small enough to ensure you don’t get a sense of being anonymously swamped, which is common to large luxury hotels. Top marks, however, go to the astonishing rooftop pool reserved exclusively for hotel guests, which is almost good enough a reason in itself to book in.
