Directly overlooking the Marquês de Pombal roundabout, the Fenix Lisboa is largely indistinguishable from the plethora of multi-storey hotels in this busy district. However, the Brazilian Fenix chain has invested several million in a two-year renovation project which they hope will raise the hotel into the up-market bracket.
Portuguese architect Massa Pina has worked wonders with the space; communal areas use a colour scheme of sobering grey with hints of oriental green and pink. It’s a relaxed environment that’s easy on the eye. Rooms are simple and straightforward, with all the obvious mod-cons.
The hotel is geared mainly towards business clients attending conferences on the premises. It is easily reached by road and metro, and is within walking-distance of the city’s top boutiques. A respectable all-rounder.
