Housing 94 rooms, this is the largest and newest of the hotels in the Hoteis Heritage family, but a warm and friendly service ensures there is no compromise on the homely atmosphere. The décor is courtesy of Portuguese interior designer Graça Viterbo and is colonial but relaxed.
Rooms are heavily laden with upholstery and suffer a lack of natural light, but command pleasant views over the botanical gardens and Lisbon’s one-time theatrical district. Suites are spacious, with a study and lounge area. An adjoining door is also provided for families who want their children to stay in a twin room next to them.
A banquet-style buffet lunch attracts a hungry horde of non-residents and claims many a victim whose eyes are bigger than their stomach. It’s a real bargain at €24 a head: even a Roman emperor would have trouble munching his way through this lot.
