When it opened in 1999, Myhotel’s minimalist white walls and feng shui philosophy were the talk of the town. Now, as the pendulum swings ever closer to maximalism, flashes of bright colour and softer textures have been introduced to temper the monasticism. Its four-star rooms are tasteful, tranquil and bright, if on the small side, while clever design in the compact, white-tiled bathrooms (filled with Aveda products) helps to create space.
On the ground floor, Mybar is fitted out with modern design classics (Saarinen Tulip tables, Tom Dixon lights); the basement library houses arty tomes, complementary refreshments and two workstations – popular with the high proportion of corporate clients here. There is also a ‘well-being centre’ (ie, a gym and treatment room) and Mysnug, a cosy area that screens black-and-white movies.
A second branch is in Chelsea (35 Ixworth Place, SW3; 020 7225 7500). Both hotels ask guests to complete a form before arrival to help personalize their stay (feather or foam pillows, classical or pop music, etc) and rooms are customized accordingly. This clever gimmick helps Myhotel to feel like your hotel as soon you arrive.
