Just off the Gran Via, in the fashionable Chueca area, this hostel has only recently been upgraded to three-star hotel standard. It is, however, one of the better three-star options in the city and, coupled with its central location, is a good choice if you want to skimp on hotel costs and have more spending money.

Its rooms are simple but pretty, with blue and white bed-covers and flowery curtains, all kept spotlessly clean. Some have balconies with flower boxes. Despite the low price, you’ll still get a private safe, direct-dial telephone and a hairdryer.

The first-floor lobby lounge and café are pleasant enough for hanging out, but there are some more interesting cafés and restaurants right on your doorstep.
