If it’s not the sexiest riad in the Medina, then Riad Perle Lotus is certainly the bling-est. The traditional riad structure – rooms arranged around a central courtyard/garden - is about the only Moroccan part still standing after designer Antoine Van Doorne stepped in and audaciously transformed the place into an unapologetically ultra-contemporary space that’s been described as ‘Vogue-meets-Miami-Vice’.
The first jaw-slackener is a seven-meter mirror that extends from the heated jacuzzi in the courtyard up to the roof terrace, literally reflecting the riad’s distinctively retro-modern black-and-white decorative theme – which stays just about this side of the cheese line. If first impressions are seductive, wait until you see the rooms – raised beds, sequinned carpets, split-level baths, and a host of iconic characters on the walls from Coco Chanel and Newton to Cartier and Gatsby.
Each room is equipped with a Bang & Olufsen plasma screen and music system, DVD player, satellite, WiFi and air conditioning, helping to complete the triumph of modernism over tradition.
