Riad Azzar has not been open as long as many of the other riads in town, but it has already made a significant mark. An atmosphere of refined charm is apparent as soon as you duck into the small entrance and enter an elegant courtyard area with a gorgeous pool and a homely ambience.

There’s something immediately affable about the place, and it’s a feeling that also pervades the six rooms (three suites, two doubles, one twin) and the other public areas, such as the pleasant alcoves, dining area and roof terrace. While there’s nothing outrageously exceptional about the décor in general, everything smacks of a subtle sensuality and a refined taste.

The rooms are lovely and teeming with features, from Algerian wardrobes to wooden bathrooms and private terraces, and all six give off a satisfying, well-manicured air. Sociable owners Cees and Maryk (from Holland) are on site most of the time to give full attention to their guests, and there’s a tiny hammam and great home cooking on offer.
