This exquisitely decorated riad opened in March 2004. Originally designed as the home of Jonathan Wix, the man behind The Scotsman in Edinburgh and Hotel de la Tremoille in Paris, Riad Farnatchi has instantly become part of Marrakech’s elite accommodation. The renovation took two years to complete, culminating in a stylish fusion of modern European and traditional Marrakchi design.
Designed around two courtyards, the five suites are simple and elegant, affording guests the necessary intimacy as well as the comfort associated with Jonathan’s other hotels. Tucked away in the narrow alleyways north of the souks, Farnatchi is not the easiest riad to find – and don’t even think about trying to reach it by car – but once you’re inside the service is mysteriously good, with staff seemingly invisible until the moment you need them.
Rooms are ultra-stylish and highly sensual, and come equipped with trimmings such as Bose iPod docks and digital TV, elegant desks, funky showers, chic furnishings and immaculate detailing throughout. Farnatchi also offers what is arguably one of the best breakfasts in Marrakech.
