Riad Dyor opened just under a year ago but has fast become one of the more established places to stay. Designed by Yvonna Hulst and Alberto Cortes (who have already transformed eight luxury villas in Ibiza) and run by relaxed Dutch manager Paul Levelled, the riad – or rather the two adjoining riads, which have been merged to create a mini-labyrinth – adhere to a spirited aesthetic of high-end eclecticism.

Moroccan textiles and fittings are interspersed with Timney Fowler cushions, Perspex chairs and other furnishings, both funky and formal, from Europe, Asia and North Africa. There are five suites and two double rooms, all of which are uniquely decorated and on the spacious side, with double beds, tadelakt bathrooms, fireplaces, desks and chairs. A mosaic-tiled courtyard offers some pleasant lounging areas, and there’s a plunge pool and a roof terrace that affords good views of the Medina.

The only drag about Dyor is that, compared to many riads, it’s a little out of the way, and there’s not so much going on in this part of the Medina. That said, it’s really only a short walk to the action, and many might prefer the relative scarcity of tourists around this neighbourhood. Manager Paul works hard to ensure that nothing is lacking during any stay here.
