A Hedonist's Guide to Miami

The days of cocaine-inspired gang warfare and shoot-outs are long gone - Miami is now the party capital of the United States. For Charlie Froggatt, polo-journalist, bon-viveur and author of Hg2 Buenos Aires, this is very good thing. He's not so handy with a pistol but is excellent at penetrating the VIP areas of Miami's high-octane clubs. Quite why he submitted so many photos of scantily dressed girls, we are still waiting to hear.

'What's Miami all about - is it a sea of fake tits and drug dealers?', I hear you ask

If you’ve heard the phrase ‘the town that never sleeps’ a hundred times before, this is the one time when you should take it seriously. If it’s nightclubs, beautiful people, fast cars, big boats and huge egos you are after, you have come to the right place - visitors come from all over the world to sample the sunshine, eat in the restaurants and party in some of the world’s top clubs.

How long do I stay?

As long as you have the will and wherewithal to carry on partying. Miami is perfect for a decadent weekend break - glam up to the max, bring out your Amex Black and lose track of time, your life and your pension plan.

When should I go?

Apart from the winter months (Jan-Feb) Miami is warm all year round. Temperatures can soar from June - August, but a cool ocean breeze gives the beach a refreshing edge. Thousands of college students descend on Miami for the week long Spring Break and are probably best avoided unless frat boys belching beer are your thing. Miami holds a host of interesting events and festivals throughout the year, so do check our Inspire Me calendar before you travel.

Where should I stay?

Your hotel is your calling card, so it's worth spending that little bit extra if you would like to look the part. Location is important, South Beach heavy hitters like the Setai, the Raleigh, the Delano, the Sagamore and the Shore Club all have great pool areas with beach access. However there are some excellent boutique hotels set back from the beach.  If you're in town for a longer stay, spend a few days restoring body and soul at the Standard or Fisher Island Club. What do we need to take?

    *  Credit cards - the more the merrier
    *  Some serious outfits - think cutting edge fashion with a slutty edge.
        Leave the casual jeans and trainers at home.
    *  A fake tan to show off the gold bikini to best effect
    *  Hg2 Miami, of course!

Now all you need to do is book that flight and enjoy!
