Loosely translated as full of wonder, Alle Meraviglie is indeed an enchanting set-up in just six beautifully appointed rooms on the second and third floor of a genteel townhouse. Fittingly, the architect’s brief was to surprise, so, while sympathetic to the building’s history with tasteful 19th-century antiques, there’s a bit of drama, such as shocking pink raw silk curtains (though now no longer a surprise).
Under the same management as Antica Locanda Mercanti (which is next door; see review), it shares many similarities: it’s big on light, space, individuality, fresh flowers and literature, and very small on ugly urbanities such as TVs (although wifi is – invisibly – available in all rooms). It’s equally fragrant and equally hidden with no street sign; the reception – like a whitewashed Victorian parlour with flowers in enamel milk pails – is manned from 7am until 11pm, and staff are happy to attend to most requests. And with an extra star rating (four star), it’s extra special.
