The Milanese revere the Diana for its glorious Liberty façade (from 1908) and its elite Diana Garden bar (see Drink). The bar overlooks the hotel’s delightful gardens, which contain the statue of the Roman goddess Diana from which the takes its name. But the Diana’s rooms and corridors lack such grandeur, despite conservative renovations that have included modest business facilities and a fitness room.
However, its old-style charm means that all 107 rooms and suites are different, decorated in a classical imperial style in soft, earthy colours with large marble bathrooms. Modern touches include Bose CD players in every room, and a rather mean automated minibar – just pick up that premier cru and you’ll be charged for it.
The best rooms are those with a view of the garden – the biggest selling point of this four-star hotel.
