Bulgari – international byword for luxury – opened its first hotel in Milan in summer 2004. With its first-class bar, a large landscaped garden and one of the city’s best spas, uptown Milan has mobbed the place.
Superbly located in a secluded private street in Brera near to the quadrilatero d’oro, the five-star Bulgari hotel stands proud in a 1950s Bauhaus-inspired white marble building. The inside has considerable wow factor: bold and contemporary, in strong organic colours of chocolate and charcoal. The 58 rooms and six suites are softer, all with oak, bronze and matt black marble, B&B Italia furniture, Frette linen (Italy’s finest), 28-inch flat-screen TVs, and of course Bulgari toiletries.
The staff are always ready for action in brown safari suits and hoodies: service is impeccable, with complimentary packing/unpacking, playstations on request, and even Ferrari car hire (or see Play), should you need to bolster your power rating among a clientele of barons, moguls and tycoons. Because at this price, the Bulgari says – in a discreet whisper – money.
