The Arbat is a very good ‘ex-Soviet’ choice for those looking for something a little cheaper, centrally located in a quiet area, just off the historic Old Arbat pedestrianized street.
The entrance hall and stairs are slightly grander than the 105 rooms, which are large and high-ceilinged. Many have recently undergone refurbishment, like many of the ex-Soviet hotels, so little by little the tired-looking bathrooms and furnishings are being replaced.
Each room is equipped with all the necessary amenities – a TV, fridge and telephone. The summer veranda is a pleasant place to sit and have a drink before popping round the corner to Cantinetta e Antinori (see Eat), Moscow’s best Italian restaurant.
