The Hotel des Grands Hommes is situated in a beautiful 18th-century building where André Breton once lived and wrote his Surrealist Manifesto.
The ‘Grands Hommes’ referred to are the luminaries of France entombed in the Panthéon opposite, who include Mirabeau, Marie Curie, Victor Hugo, Voltaire and Rousseau. The Luxembourg Gardens and the tiny streets surrounding the Sorbonne are a short walk from here.
The hotel’s décor reflects France’s glory days, with classic Empire-style decoration. Each of the 31 rooms are slightly different, but all are equipped with standard mod-cons, antique writing-tables and mirrors, bas-reliefs over the beds, and crown mouldings. A neo-classical, spacious lobby and winding staircase add authenticity to a spectacular view of the Panthéon.
The sister hotel (Hotel du Panthéon) next door has similar rooms, but they’re perhaps a little more floral in style. Both hotels have rooms with a view of the Panthéon, although those without tend to be larger.
