Boutique Hotel Le A is the marvellous result of the collaboration between interior-architect Frédéric Méchiche and artist Fabrice Hybert.

Inside, the only colour to be seen is provided courtesy of Fabrice Hybert’s wall-sized abstract paintings specifically commissioned for the space, while the rest of the modern interior is purely black and white. Dark armchairs and sofas are accentuated with bright white cushions, while fabulous white orchids are reflected in the polished black coffee tables and echo the white painted brickwork that frames the angular modern fireplaces.

The lobby is given added personality by the many tubular lights that are suspended at different heights. The bar/breakfast area is a celestial, South Beach fantasy: white drapes hang over the skylight, while large paintings of trees create the illusion of depth of space.

The 25 rooms (and sole apartment) continue the black-and-white theme, providing a perfect backdrop to the colourful art and suspended lights. Impossibly white armchairs are a dry cleaner’s fantasy, although you feel you only have to look at them to leave your mark. The black-and-white clad young designer guests graciously manage to echo the furniture, if only not to upset the décor.
