The romantic and magical approach to the ivy-covered façade of Pavillon de la Reine, through the tunnel of colonnades surrounding the beautiful, cobbled Places des Vosges, is soundtracked by the operatic voice of the local castrato.
However, despite such a grand entrance, the interior, elegantly decorated in classic French style, still doesn’t disappoint. It’s a pleasure to sit in the red-walled bar listening to the crackle of burning wood in the stone fireplace, while sipping a drink poured from the honesty bar (above which an oil painting of a priest is strategically placed, eyeing you up and down, and testing your conscience).
The rooms are tasteful and stylish and some even have their own little terraces. The hotel is also ideally placed for those on a mission to explore Paris’ nightlife, since it is sandwiched between the lively Marais and the bars of the Bastille.
