The Relais Christine is a charming hotel on the Left Bank, a stone’s throw from the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay and the Seine. Situated on the quiet street from which it takes its name, it is nevertheless surrounded by lively restaurants and bars (most notably on the famous rue Saint-André-des-Arts).
Somewhat incongruously, it started life as a 16th-century mansion built on the ruins of a 13th-century Augustinian cloister, which you still approach through an old courtyard; of the original building all that remains is a copper cooking pot in the breakfast room (which used to be the old kitchens) and a coat of armour.
The rooms are decorated in the ever-popular classic contemporary style (try to book one with gorgeous wooden beams and its own terrace), and there is a wonderful sitting room kitted out with antique furniture and an honesty bar. An incredible spa awaits you in the converted basement vaults.
