A rather eccentric little hotel run by the equally eccentric Monsieur de Bené (or ‘François’, as he might ask you to call him).
You’ll feel as if you’re staying in someone’s 18th-century home. The comfortable sofa-filled lounge is complete with fireplace, old oil paintings, a jumble of umbrellas and walking sticks and a variety of objects accumulated over time and arranged in a way that you’d only find in a private house.
All 20 rooms are a little different, although they share their pink colour scheme and array of antique furniture. Ask for a room with its own private terrace (specifically, rooms 14 and 16; they’re also larger with magnificently high ceilings). The original creaking staircase remains, which you descend into the converted old wine cellar, now a breakfast room, where wicker baskets and straw hats decorate the stone walls.
It’s also walking-distance from the glorious Bon Marché department store and buzzing boutiques of the fashionable 6th. A true find.
