One of Prague’s most individual hotels, the musically themed Aria was created by Czech hotel entrepreneur Henry Kallan as a complement to his more bookish Library Hotel in New York. Each of the four floors is dedicated to a different musical genre (jazz, opera, classical, contemporary), and the 52 rooms represent an additional musical period or persona, covering everything from Rossini to Brahms and The Beatles.

The theme is raised beyond novelty by an array of other delightful touches: the sweeping floor mosaic that ushers guests into the magnificent lobby; carpets embroidered with musical notes; a cosy Music Salon (with fireplace); plus a Music Box room (which shows music-themed movies on a large plasma screen), a 1000- plus library of CDs, and a staff musicologist who can guide you through your composer’s oeuvre, as well as recommend concerts and events in the city during your stay.

The rooms and public areas have been painstakingly styled by Italian architect–designer Rocco Magnoli (best known for creating Versace’s boutiques), while Czech artist Joseph Blecha has adorned the rooms with caricatures of musical legends.

The rooms, all large, feature flat-screen computers with downloaded music, huge beds, DVD players and Molton Brown bath products. This is accommodation of the highest quality, beguilingly beautiful, charming and well thought out. If you can’t afford to stay here, at least pop in for a drink on a sunny day to admire the stunning terrace views from the rooftop café.
