The Mediterranean eatery Jet Set (of the same owner) and new Thai spa, Zen Asian Wellbeing flank the subtle entrance to the new ICON hotel which opens into a sunny, industrial chic lobby cum lounge with electric, colourful furniture, concrete walls, aluminium air ducts, DJ booth and atrium.
The Diesel-clad staff and Apple computers point to canny partnerships and as the girls escort you to your room, ICON’s personal touch comes forward. A forgotten Jindfiich Halabala chair has been resurrected, the 31 rooms are in subdued corridors but rooms are bright, spacious, lined with tactile surfaces and loaded with ultra mod cons including, thumb-print accessed safe, ipod/mp3 port connected to the flat screen TV and DVD player.
Free WiFi (in public areas) and dataport in room, wireless Skype phone, delightfully comfortable Hastens beds, slate bathrooms with Rituals products might mean you never leave your room, but the all day a la carte breakfast will fuel even the most hedonistic guest. A 1930s building has been redesigned with explicit care to provide a truly contemporary new hotel.
