Review

Yet another example of Prague’s blazing boutique scene, the Floor Hotel is a smart, four-star offering occupying a very good location between Wenceslas Square and the Old Town.

The funky white reception gives way to designer rooms that are generally smart and comfortable. If you score the right one you’ll get plenty of space, decent furnishings and even a jacuzzi, but be aware that some of the others don’t reflect the prices so well.

Similarly the breakfasts, despite the surprise appearance of porridge on the menu, can fail to live up to the promises of the good-looking breakfast room; and you’d be better off eating somewhere other than the slightly sterile El Gaucho restaurant.

It ought to be mentioned also that the staff can be frustratingly nonchalant and ineffective. So why have we included it? Because even if the overriding impression is mostly of a place ironing out its flaws and finding its feet, when the Floor does get things right, it can be a very memorable place to stay.
