Jiricna, one of the Czech Republic's finest architects, is an expert in modernism and modern design. The Josef is filled with twisiting fluid forms, there is an emphasis on structure on form throughout, breaking precepts of the traditional. The stairs descending from the lobby are particularly fine.

The Josef is on the eastern edge of Josefov not far from the Namesti Republiky (Republic Square) and the wonderfully ornate Art Nouveau offerings of the Obecni Dum (Municipal House) and the Pariz Hotel. Josefov, the Jewish Quarter, is less typified by the opulence of Parizska on this side. instead characterized by small shops, low key cafes and popular bars. The Old Town Square is a five minute walk from the hotel, the Charles Bridge around 15 minutes and to reach Prague Castle allow yourself a good half an hour.
