Hotel Fenix, situated on a side street running off Wenceslas Square, possesses a surprising amount of flair. To all intents and purposes it’s a chain hotel, but the light, airy lobby creates a great first impression that extends, more or less, throughout the rest of the building.
Popular with business travellers as well as a younger leisure crowd, it mixes interior design and state-of-the-art amenities and seems to attract a decent range of clientele. Fenix has 130 rooms in total, most of them decorated with muted colours and modern furniture.
Front windows are double-glazed, which is just as well since the hotel is unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view) close to two of the town’s best known adult clubs: Atlas and Darling (see Party). The rooms at the back are quieter, and it’s just a short walk from here to the centre of the city and away from the hubbub outside.
With a health club in the basement and a business centre just off the lobby, this is a good all-round option.
