While we may be disinclined to rave about chain hotels, the SAS Alcron is a little more special than most. Before the Radisson group took it over, the original hotel had been a Prague institution for many years.
Today it still displays a strong Art Deco influence and retains many original features – heavy crystal chandeliers, rich Italian marble and creamy ‘milk glass’ – enough to drive home the feeling that you couldn’t be anywhere else in the world other than Prague.
The 211 rooms are comfortable and designed to complement the communal areas with classic period furnishings. The Alcron’s central location, just off Wenceslas Square and a 10-minute stroll from Old Town Square, puts you close to the opera houses.
The clincher, however, just might be the Alcron restaurant – one of the finest in the city, specializing in the kind of remarkable seafood dishes that make it almost worth staying here for the food alone.
