Riverside

Janáckovo Nábrezí 15, Prague

Riverside

Taking up the reins from Hotel Josef, the Riverside was the next phase in Prague's still developing boutique hotel scene. Instead of modern innovations and architectural masterpieces, the Riverside has taken the comfortable route - rooms with large enveloping beds, a modern take on old-fashioned glamour and a hotel bar worth taking a digestif in. Views over the river help as well.

The Riverside opened in 2002 and has made an impressive inroad into Prague’s designer hotel scene. A product of the French group Orco, the hotel combines modern elegance and comfort with old-fashioned Art Nouveau décor and breathtaking views.

Situated on the riverbank, as the name suggests, Riverside overlooks not just the Vlatva but also the Castle (if you get the high room on the north-facing side), as well as Frank Gehry’s impressive Dancing House. Simple but stylish rooms are the product of Pascale de Montrémy’s design vision, and include the comfortable Room 603, which has a stunning panorama and balcony.

The standard rooms are not particularly spacious, but nor are they insufficient. A relaxed and modish lobby bar is the perfect place to sip a cocktail, making the only minus points the lack of a restaurant and a brisk 20-minute walk into the centre.
