For dedicated hedonists who want to stay near the Vatican, the choices are unfortunately fairly limited, with a measly offering of hotels and quality restaurants.
The Bramante stands out in this otherwise barren area for its simple but comfortable rooms and location a mere 100m from St Peter’s – it has been offering hospitality to pilgrims since 1873.
It may only be a humble three stars but the restored rooms are indisputably elegant with high-beamed wooden ceilings, wrought-iron beds and some fairly charming views over the internal courtyard. Triple and quadruple rooms are also available, and service is cordial and consummate.
