Another chic-boutique B&B, Casa Howard occupies two locations, both in historical palazzi near the Spanish Steps. At Via Capo le Case furnishings and décor seek to recreate all the comfort of staying in a contemporary English country house, with parquet floors, oil paintings and antiques.
At Via Sistina the styling is more eclectic, with exotic themes: there’s the Zebra room, for instance, with its retina-bending black-and-white stripes, or the Chinese room draped in Shanghai silks. The nature of the old buildings means that quarters can be a little cramped and not all rooms have their own bathroom.
However, this shouldn’t put you off: kimonos and slippers are provided for those who have to creep down the corridor. A Turkish hammam steam bath is available in each location (for an extra charge). Fresh flowers from Frascati and soaps from the Renaissance apothecary Officina Profumo di Santa Maria Novella, as well as fresh croissants and Tuscan jam, are blissful personal touches.
