This 16th-century palazzo, nestling under the wing of the Spanish Steps, belongs to the Hotel Hassler. It also doubles up as the headquarters for the International Wine Academy, presided over by the same prolific Mr Wirth.
The concept is legendary, combining the comfort of four delicious boutique hotel rooms with the fine art of wine. The rooms are elegantly decorated in beige and black, and guests can enjoy all the facilities on offer at the adjoining Hotel Hassler.
Il Palazzetto feels like a sojourn in a private house rather than in a grand hotel, and its setting is certainly unique. If that wasn’t enough the Il Palazetto restaurant and wine bar (see Snack) is a wonderfully intimate hideaway from the tourist rabble. Chess fans get ready: there’s an antique chessboard in the cosy library bar which begs some sexy tête-à-têtes.
Wine tasting and gastronomy courses are on offer in English, Italian and French, and the Wine Academy located on the ground floor also organizes short trips to wine regions for small groups. Could you ask for more?
