Review
When it first opened in 2002, this huge Schrager-esque monolith behind Termini station caused ripples through Rome’s fashion set. After falling into the hands of the Radisson group, there is a slightly more corporate feel, but unusually it hasn’t suffered too much under the clutches of a franchise.
The concept is industrial chic, which goes rather well with the down-at-heel location, overlooking the train tracks. Rooms are pared down, with a slate-grey palette and techno features such as DVD players and plasma screens and a multifunctional control for curtains, lighting and appliances.
A glass screen separates the low platform beds from the bathroom. With all that monotone the multicoloured neon lighting under the windows at night is a welcome respite. The hotel comes into its own come summer when the Miami-style rooftop pool opens, while all year round the top floor bar is a lively affair with a mean line in punchy cocktails.
