It’s Rome’s first foray into modern hotel design, and the 1990s minimalism of Ripa Hotel may be too severe for some tastes. Slightly shabby from outside, the inside is friendly and warm and the bold red sofas inject some colour.
Rooms are comfortable, if a little too pared down (with monchrome shades and minibars covered in black velvet hanging from the walls).
The location, in an unkempt corner of Trastevere, is slightly peripheral, but if you want to be near the nightlife on this side of the river it’s fairly convenient.
Since the Op Art-styled adjoining nightclub La Suite closed its doors, the hotel’s fashion credentials have slipped slightly. However, there’s a bit of a scene at the neighbouring Ripartcafé, which hosts regular live music evenings and starts to buzz at lunchtimes and the aperitivo hour. A rather hit and miss experience.
