The Diplomat enjoys a prime location on Strandvägen, one of the most desirable addresses in the city, and is an easy walk from Östermalm and convenient for Djurgården. The building retains many of its original features, including beautiful stained-glass windows in the stairwell, but it has successfully combined them with modern bedrooms and lively public spaces.

The lounge-bar, T/Bar, is popular with the affluent office workers of Östermalm each evening, in part because there's often a happy hour on bottles of champagne during the week. Locals also like to come here for afternoon tea and, at the weekend, brunch.

Don't miss the lesswell-known cocktail bar, which is hidden away up a flight of stairs from the lobby. It's wonderfully old-fashioned and usually far less raucous than T/Bar.

Needless to say, if you're checking in for a few days be sure to request a room with a view over the water.
