Review

The Esplanade stands next door to the Diplomat and while from the outside they appear to be quite similar their interiors are markedly different. The Esplanade is, in the very best sense, old-fashioned. That is to say it's unconcerned with seeming like a hip, happening hotel. You won't find enormous flatscreen TVs, a hopping bar scene or a state-of-the-art business centre here. Instead it prefers to base its reputation on personal service and genuine charm.

The building has retained lots of original features dating from when the hotel opened in 1910. The décor is traditional and distinctly Swedish. You can spot the influence (and fabrics) of Svenskt Tenn, the country's most prestigious interior décor store, which is located on the same street. Considering its location, prices are extremely good. This is the sort of place you come to for quiet days, not wild nights.
