Not to be confused with the Grand in the city centre, this hotel lies just outside central Stockholm. Although you feel as if you are in the heart of the countryside, in fact you are close enough to venture into town for dinner.
The lobby overlooks sailing boats moored in the harbour, and you will be breathing in fresh sea air from the moment you arrive. The rooms are spacious and cheerfully decorated with citrus colours, creating a bright and breezy mood.
This extends to the very superior restaurant, called Franska Matsalen just like the Restaurant of its namesake hotel.
In contrast to the rich, dark colours of the dining room in the Stockholm Grand, Saltsjöbaden's interior has a lighter opulence, and yellow predominates. The hotel is most suitable for summer visits when the delights of the sea can be fully appreciated, but on a rainy day there's always the impressive billiard room to keep yourself entertained if you don't fancy a ride into town.
