The Hotel J combines waterfront tranquillity with bags of style and first-class service. The atmosphere makes it feel like a wonderfully comfortable private home, with a blue-and-white colour scheme that's reminiscent of a New England sailing club. (The hotel is named after the J-class range of yachts.)
In the winter it's comforting, with blazing fires and plates of croissants and cakes available most of the day, but it's at its best in the summer when you can dine outside watching fleets of yachts sailing into and out of the city.
It's located a short ferry ride from the city, so perhaps it's not ideal for someone on a first visit to Stockholm who wants to dash around town, but perfect for anyone wanting a more relaxed pace of life. The hotel's sister property at Gåshaga is further removed from town but equally pleasant.
