Nordic Sea

Vasaplan, Box 884, Norrmalm

Nordic Sea

The lobby to the Nordic Sea is impressive, with a vast aquarium and the Absolut Ice Bar, which is always busy with parka-clad visitors. The property is nowhere near as smart as its sibling, the Nordic Light, but rooms are far more affordable. Be warned that the very smallest ones have no exterior windows.

The Nordic Sea is not as style-conscious as the Nordic Light, nor is it as expensive. However, if you are trying to save kronor bear in mind that the cheapest of its rooms are the size of a shoe box and do not even have exterior windows.

The hotel's marine theme is reflected in the predominantly blue-and-white colour palette and the large and impressive aquarium that dominates the lobby.

However, the Sea's biggest attraction is the Ice Bar, where you have to wear fur-lined parkas to cope with the constant  –10ºC. The walls are made of ice, the tables are made of ice, the stools are made of ice and, yes, you drink chilled vodka out of ice glasses. The concept is not the novelty it once was, but it's still extremely popular and you need to buy tickets in advance to get in.
