This hotel is one of the furthest from the centre of Stockholm, although a 45-minute drive doesn’t exactly constitute a serious mission. Situated out in the archipelago, the traditional manor house is beautifully set in a rambling country estate.
Within this, the facilities, from a golf course to several tennis courts and of course a programme of boating activities, make the hotel perfect for a fan of country pursuits. During the winter businessmen fill the rooms, but the summer months are reserved more for those wanting to relax and enjoy the scenery.
Nevertheless, for a romantic break, the open fireplaces and snug rooms make this a cosy getaway at any time of year. Unless you’re going for one of the Michelin-starred establishments, the city centre is a little far for dinner, but classic Swedish fare is offered at the hotel’s first-rate restaurant. Smådalarö Gård’s wood-fired sauna is also heaven.
