Stallmästaregården

Norrtull, 113 47, Stockholm City

Stallmästaregården

Set in Hagapark, the city's most regal public park, this feels a million miles from downtown Stockholm, but is only a ten minute cab ride away. The restaurant is highly respected in its own right and the 49-room hotel followed in 2000.

The Stallmästaregården is an unusual place. It's just an easy taxi ride from the city centre but it stands on the edge of Haga Park and feels like it's out in the middle of the Swedish countryside. It's so romantic and rustic that it's a popular venue for weddings throughout the summer.

At first glance, the hotel's  décor seems very like that of a country house hotel, complete with chandeliers and period portraits decorating the reception area. But when you get to the rooms you'll find they are far more modern, with lots of strong colours and bold fabrics. Some of the funkier rooms are split level with a sleeping area upstairs and a living room below.

The restaurant is known for its traditional Swedish dishes and in the warmer months you can dine outdoors and take in the marvellous park views. An excellent choice if you want to feel as if you're in the country but still have access to the attractions of the city.
