Italian chain Domina has established an elegant presence in central Tallinn with its City branch, opposite the mock-classical columns of the Hollywood nightclub and the Sõprus cinema. Housed in a handsome municipal building, this smart hotel has a young, bright feel to it, which suits its location in this most bustling corner of the Old Town – an intersection thick with shoppers, workers and partiers, where real Estonians mingle with the tourists.
Behind its colonnaded façade, renovated after bomb damage sustained in the war, the entrance leads through to a large, white, split-level lobby that feels a little like a modern art gallery – full of striking paintings by contemporary Italian artists.
Look over the balcony to locate the downstairs bar and restaurant, complete with baby grand for live music. There are 68 rooms decorated in simple but professional style – and each room has its own computer terminal with internet access, a real innovation in Tallinn hotels. The Domina City also offers special package deals for honeymooners, culture enthusiasts and families.
