‘The setting sun can cast strange shadows’, say the staff at Villa Stahl, built as a private house in the 1930s but later used by the Red Army and the Wermacht as a headquarters. With its view of the Baltic Sea and Tallinn’s Kadriorg Park on either side of the house, this romantic claim may well be true.
A 10-minute drive from town on a busy coastal road, the reconverted Villa sits right between the two, although suburban-looking houses and heavy traffic also play their part in the vista.
Eight large, elegantly decorated rooms are named after different cities of Europe, and there’s a beautiful attic apartment with windows on three sides, a private sauna and a central fireplace. This small hotel is a good spot for summer visits – close to the lovely park with its museum and walks, and the beach in Pirita.
