Tokyo. Flashing neon billboards, mirror smooth skyscrapers, 50th floor cocktails and clubbing until the sun rises. Or maybe cherry blossoms, sumo wrestlers, lantern-lit lanes and early morning sushi fix at the fish market. Say the word Tokyo and a maelstrom of conflicting images are likely to pop into mind. And with more than 12 million people squeezed into the sprawling urban landscape, it is perhaps little surprise that in one of the world's most densely populated city there is something for everyone.

Hg2 Tokyo was compiled by Danielle Demetriou, a freelance journalist and photographer. Now based in Tokyo, Danielle stands behind her recommendations in the guide - and gets to frequent the city's vast array of venues more often than most.
