Classical Connoisseurs

This time of year is ideal to plan a long weekend break in Prague.  By May, temperatures are rising but the city is not yet overrun with camera-clad tourists.  Although there is plenty to fill a few days here, music lovers should time their visit to coincide with, arguably, one of the worlds' most prestigious showcases for outstanding classical performers.

The music varies from Mozart to Mahler and Shostakovich to Strauss, there is, of course, a particular bent towards the home grown Czech composers, that means a lot of Dvorak, as well as a host of less internationally known names. The wonderful settings for the concerts from the Municipal House to the National Theatre give the festival that extra edge.  For more information go to www.festival.cz.

Prague is rich in architecture and culture, which means you tend spend a lot of time 'wandering' around the city's hidden gems.  Treat yourself to one of the wonderful spa treatments offered by Sebai - a wonderful Thai spa in the middle of town.  Alternatively, if you are staying at the opulent Alchymist Grand Hotel and Spa, enjoy a relaxation treatment following busy afternoons to prepare you for a wonderfully romantic evening.  The sophisticated Carlo IV and stylish Aria are two of our top picks in the city.
