The Hedonist's guides, or Hg2s if you will, arrive to sate the very 'now' desire for function and style in a bid to become the city guides of choice. The sexy design of the Hg2 website (www.hg2.com) seriously whetted my appetite for these tities and left expectations high. They were stood up however when I turned to the first page. Like the Hedonist, I'll tell it like it is, and get my sole criticism out of the way, straigh away - the layout and aesthetic is reminiscent of a high school text book and surely an opportunity missed. But I'm not going to dwell on that because the Hg2s deserve acclaim for their straightforward critique of the indulgent aspects of city life. Be it hotel, restaurant, bar or club, their eye is trained solely on sorting the style from the not-worth-your-while, paying particular attention to atmosphere and the tired loftiness of some establishments. You are safe in their hands, and with guides available to Rome, Paris and Milan - all destinations from Newcastle International - you'd be a fool not to be accompanied by a discerning Hedonist.
