Shipwrecks and sand dunes
This flying safari is so much fun I don’t know where to start describing it. Starting in the south of Nambia you spend 4 days low-level flying the length of the hauntingly beautiful Skeleton Coast in a 4-seater private plane; stopping en route to explore windswept beaches, shipwrecks, sand dunes and the uniquely magnificent geological formations of the hinterland.
Evenings are spent in a series of small, stunningly situated tented camps - basic enough to feel adventurous but with all the essentials (gin and tonics to watch the sunset, hot showers and good grub) provided. This is not a game safari, but animals abound; from a statuesque oryx poised on the ridge of a sand dune to seals playing in the crashing surf, rare desert elephants and basking crocodiles. Flown and guided by the knowledgeable Schoeman family, pioneers of eco-tourism in Namibia, this is quite literally the experience of a lifetime and a must if you’re visiting Nambia.

Horse-riding in Central Asia
Alexandra Tolstoy, Hg2's very own updater in Moscow, when she'snot on the hunt for exquisite new restaurants and bars, runs riding holidays in Russia. Having ridden the Silk Road in 1999, she fell in love, married and moved to Russia. Today with her ex-showjumper husband she runs spectacular treks across the plains of Central Asia. From Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan they traverse deserts, plains and mountain passes in some of the world's most breathtakingly beautiful and rugged countryside. They offer a fabulously tranquil and intimate look at some of the most remote parts of Asia, where one is looked after sumptuously and made to feel welcome by locals.

Helicopter transfers to JFK
Weekend breaks in New York are such a joy, but after grappling with US customs convincing them that no, you are not a terrorist or an illegal immigrant, just tourist keen to do your little bit to help high-end retailers earn their daily crust, you're pretty much in need of a martini at 40 minute cab ride away. Well, that drink can come that little bit sooner with US Helicopters airport transfer services, book one way or return flights from JFK to the Downtown Manhattan Heliport and arrive in the manner in which you intend to continue...

Who's the Daddy?
To a palate jaded by the morning feast of email alerts to the hot restaurant du jour, it takes something truly exceptional to avoid being consigned into ether-oblivion. Enter UrbanDaddy. Whilst it follows the formula we've come to expect from DailyCandy, Urban Junkies and their ilk - "an exclusive email magazine all about keeping you in the know", with a strict tell it like it is editorial policy and a diet of new clubs, bars restaurants and their like - what sets it apart is its fresh, somewhat acerbic tone, tongue in cheek interviews and some genuinely great reviews. UrbanDaddy covers New York and Los Angeles and a browse through the archive is a must if you are heading to the US. The daily email is by invitation only, but you can sign up on the site and hope that big daddy gives you the nod.
